About Botanical Garden 

Discover the transformative tale of the Shraddhey Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Botanical Garden, a visionary initiative by the Forest Department of Central Chanda, Maharashtra, spearheaded by Forest Minister Shri. Sudhir Mungantiwar. In a bid to safeguard the delicate balance between human livelihoods and wildlife conservation, this expansive 104-hectare Botanical Garden was established, featuring a Conservation Zone nurturing indigenous flora and fauna, and a Recreation Zone offering educational and recreational experiences. Embracing eco-tourism and sustainable practices, this botanical marvel symbolizes India's commitment to harmonious coexistence, weaving together development, preservation, and environmental stewardship under PM Modi's 'Viksit Bharat' vision. It's a story of unity, progress, and the nurturing of a sustainable future amidst nature's embraces.

Our History

Biodiversity and Ecological Significance

Central Chanda Forest Division, situated in Chandrapur, near the Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve, boasts rich biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Recognized by the Wildlife Institute of India, it plays a crucial role in connecting ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and corridors across the expansive forests of Maharashtra.

Human-Wildlife Conflict

The region has witnessed escalating conflicts between human activities and wildlife conservation efforts. The local communities, reliant on the forest for their livelihood through the collection of forest products and grazing of animals, have put the delicate balance between human sustenance and wildlife preservation at risk.

Innovative Conservation Initiative

In response to these challenges, the Forest Department of Central Chanda, under the leadership of Shri. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Honourable Forest Minister of Maharashtra, initiated the establishment of the Shraddhey Shree Atal Bihari Vajpayee Botanical Garden. This pioneering project aims to mitigate human-wildlife conflict by providing alternative livelihood options to the local community, alongside promoting conservation education and efforts.

Underground Museum

This underground treasure features an extraordinary array of cultural arts and natural history exhibits. Aquarium

A beautiful sea shell shaped aquarium exhibiting river and sea fish and also diverse forms of aquatic and marine life behind huge glass walls adds to the list of attractions.

Science Center

Situated amid diverse plant life, the Science Center offers an immersive exploration of botany and ecology. With workshops, live demos, and advanced exhibits, it reveals the deep ties between plants and the Earth. Bio Diversity

Dino Park

The Open Dinosaur Park is a captivating outdoor experience where visitors can explore life-sized dinosaur replicas in a natural setting. By Rail

Ballarshah railway station (BPQ) is 4.5 km from the Botanical Garden, and Chandrapur railway station (CD) is 14km. BPQ is an important railway junction on the New Delhi-Chennai main line with about 160 trains halting there.

By Road

Chandrapur is well connected by the road network to all parts of Maharashtra and India. The bus route to Chandrapur is quite comfortable and plenty of luxury buses ply on this route.

By Air

Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur is the nearest airport to Chandrapur. It is well connected to major cities in the country.

Things to Rememberer

You are entering a wildlife conservation area. Disturbing the wild life, causing any harm or teasing them in any manner is a penal offence with a provision of 7 years of imprisonment. As responsible citizens you can contribute towards wildlife conservation by respecting this national property and keeping it clean and beautiful.`
